The Samobor Carnival is one of the oldest and most recognisable carnival traditions in Croatia, protected as intangible cultural heritage. For centuries, it has celebrated satire, free expression and shared joy, and through masks, humour and open social commentary has become an integral part of the identity of the town of Samobor.
The artistic design was created by Karlo Gross, who features Sraka, the most iconic figure of the Samobor Carnival and a distinctive voice of the people, on the obverse of the coin, while the reverse depicts other characters and motifs associated with the rich carnival tradition.
