Continuing the successful gold and silver coin series “Croatian Literature”, the Croatian National Bank, in collaboration with the Croatian Mint, is issuing collector coins featuring Marija Jurić Zagorka – a central figure in the cultural and social history of Croatia.

Zagorka left an indelible mark on Croatian literature through her historical novels and feuilletons. Among her most famous works are The Witch of Grič, The Daughter of Lotrščak, and Gordana. Her writing brought historical themes closer to the wider public, especially women, while also addressing important social issues in an engaging narrative form.

Marija Jurić Zagorka is remembered not only as a writer but also as a bold and fearless woman who did not shy away from confronting the prejudices and social limitations of her time. Today, Zagorka stands as a symbol of Croatian cultural and social legacy, and her influence continues to inspire new generations.

The coins are minted in high quality and available in two versions:

• 1-ounce gold coin with a nominal denomination of 100 euro (limited to 100 pieces)
• 1-ounce silver coin with a nominal denomination of 4 euro (limited to 1,000 pieces)

The design of the collector coin dedicated to Marija Jurić Zagorka was created by artist Jelena Mavrić Varga, who skilfully captured the strength and determination of this extraordinary woman through her portrait on the coin’s obverse.

The “Marija Jurić Zagorka” issue will be available on April 24, 2025, from 9:00 AM through the official web shop of the Croatian Mint.
