The Croatian National Bank, in honour of Marulić’s anniversary year, is issuing a commemorative 2-euro coin. The motif on the commemorative coin features the portrait of the Croatian writer Marko Marulić, whose literary heritage has a historical and cultural relevance for the Republic of Croatia, which was the main motif on the obverse side of the 500-kuna banknote.
The author of the design of the national side is Stjepan Divković, an academic sculptor. The coin was minted at the Croatian Mint and was issued in a quantity of 200,000.
Description of the national side of the commemorative coin:
The national side of the commemorative coin features the main motif of the portrait of Marko Marulić. In addition to the main motif, the coin also features the inscriptions: the symbol for the Republic of Croatia “HR”, the year of issuance “2024.” and the name and surname of Marko Marulić “MARKO MARULIĆ”, which are inscribed along the coin’s core.
The coin’s national side outer ring depicts the 12 stars of the European flag.
The edge lettering of the coin features the text “O LIJEPA O DRAGA O SLATKA SLOBODO” (Oh beautiful, oh dear, oh sweet freedom) from the Hymn to Freedom, which is an integral part of the pastoral play “Dubravka” by the 17th century Croatian writer Ivan Gundulić.

The commemorative 2-euro coin is minted according to the technical specifications for the 2-euro circulation coin in accordance with Council Regulation (EU) No 729/2014 of 24 June 2014 on denominations and technical specifications of euro coins intended for circulation.
