Mario Puratić invented a revolutionary mechanical device for hauling nets, known as the “Power Block”. This invention enabled faster and more efficient hauling of fishing nets, reducing the physical strain on fishermen and increasing fishing productivity.
The Croatian National Bank in collaboration with the Croatian Mint presents a new issue in the commemorative series of collector coins “Croatian Innovators”, the “Puretić’s Power Block”, dedicated to yet another great inventor from Croatia.
Available are gold and silver collector coins of different denominations, each crafted with special attention to detail to honour the great inventor and his invention.
The gold collector coin “Puretić’s Power Block”, weighing 1 ounce (31.103 grams), has a nominal value of 100 euros and has been minted in just 100 pieces.
The silver collector coin “Puretić’s Power Block”, weighing 1 ounce (31.103 grams), has a nominal value of 4 euros and has been minted in 1,000 pieces.
This coin, designed by Croatian sculptor Jelena Mavrić Varga, tells a story that may not be widely known but certainly deserves to be told.
Puratić patented the invention in 1954, and by 1963, it began to be used in Croatian fisheries. From that time until his death, our inventor would file more than 20 fishing-related innovations with the U.S. Patent Office.
If you decide to buy these collector coins as a gift to someone dear to you, it is useful to know that each of them comes in a gift box with a certificate signed by the governor of the Croatian National Bank.
The gold and silver collector coin “Puretić’s Power Block” can be purchased through the web store of the Croatian Mint or from certain sales partners.
