The Croatian National Bank, in collaboration with the Croatian Mint, has issued the silver collector coin “August Šenoa” as part of the “Croatian Literature” series. The one ounce silver coin (31,103 grams), with a face value of 4 euro, is available in a limited series of 1,000 pieces. This collector coin is minted in Brilliant Uncirculated quality and comes in a box with a certificate signed by the Governor of the Croatian National Bank.

On the obverse, author of the design Duje Matetić has depicted August Šenoa, a writer who left a profound mark on Croatian literature and on the cultural life of the 19th century. As an author whose name grew beyond the boundaries of literature itself, Šenoa remains permanently inscribed in Croatia’s cultural heritage, and the period of his work is still known today as the Šenoa era.

The reverse features the Stone Gate, one of Zagreb’s most recognisable landmarks, closely associated with the world of Šenoa’s best-known novel, “The Goldsmith’s Gold”. In this way, a strong link is created between Šenoa’s literary legacy and the city he so deeply shaped through his work.

Through its symbolism and its connection to Croatian literary heritage, this coin represents a valuable gift and a lasting keepsake dedicated to August Šenoa.
